Cute photos of cute offbeat families!

Take some time and journey to a dreamy sleeping baby land

Chantell and Freddy celebrated the recent birth of daughter Liliana in Chantell’s mother’s home. The trio enlisted the expertise of Laura Isle Photography for their session, which seems like an awesome fit — I’m not usually especially drawn to photos of babies in baskets, but these look like Lily was in the middle of the best sleep ever in the softest bed ever and just fucking loving it.

An offbeat auntie Santa Monica outing

Ooooh we’ve received a little more photo magic via Two Bright Lights again! This set of photos is of photographer Ilene Squires‘s best friend and her niece and nephew. I love the idea of an auntie or uncle (or family friend!) having his or her own photo session with the kids — it’s something you don’t see a lot!

This family definitely knows how to bask in the sun and love each other

I oh-so-very much love family photo sessions that take place at parks and playgrounds, like this one from Natalie Champa Jennings Photography. It’s just like.. you want insta-kiddo smiles? Let them run around, swing, and be crazy!

Downtown Portland family photos with a touch of snazz

If there’s one thing I love, it’s moms who are also professional photographers. Of course, I might just be biased.. since I’m both of those, too. Either way, these shots from Portland, Oregon-based PDX Momma are the coolest.

All about one queer family’s experience with IVF and making babies

The Story of Sadie sits on the mantle in Shannon, Allison, and Sadie’s home. The book tells the tale of two adventurous queer women who wanted to make a baby together. It’s far from a love story about one getting pregnant with anonymous donor sperm while the other massages feet and masters the art of Lamaze. They opted for a difficult yet decidedly more magical route: Allison carried Shannon’s egg.

We are brave and beautiful: a single mom’s journey back home with her son

Ooooh, y’all. We’re very privileged here at Offbeat Mama, because we get to see and feature a lot of incredible photo sessions. This post is definitely no exception — these photos (shot by North Carolina-based Charo Photography) feature Casey, a single mother, and her son Joseph. The idea behind the photos is ingenious: the pair picked words that they would use to describe one another and wrote them on each other. The results? Totally breathtaking.

Colorful urban photos of a San Franciscan family of two

Melissa and her son Hai recently had their photos taken by the uber-talented Bowerbird Photography in San Francisco. They journeyed to Clarion Alley, an alley dedicated to street art where the murals are always changing. Photographer Ariel said that Melissa wanted somewhere colorful to shoot.

Super adorable downtown Dallas family photos featuring Run-DMC and colorful accessories

I’m in LOOOOVE with these photos from Dallas-based Conversation Art Studios. In LOOOOOOVE. There’s extra “UH” in that love! From the little man’s awesome style (RUN DMC!) to the yellow-flower-purple-tank-teal-shoes combo the mom is rocking, this session is one awesome fun fest.
