Over the weekend my cooking challenge came to an end. Here's a quick rundown of my experiences from Day 6, with a menu all planned out, and Day 7 with no menu and the instructions to, as Ariel put it, "go off-roading." It resulted in one awesome Star Wars-themed picnic! Breakfast tacos, ice cream for lunch, freaky onions, and Samuel L. Jackson!? Day 5 of Megan's cooking challenge was one weird ride. And it looks like, according to the video, Megan had never before encountered ginger … until last night. Watch it all unfold! Megan isn't the only one whose week has been enlightening — I've learned things, too! And with these lessons tucked into my belt, I we set upon Day 6 of the challenge with VIGOR! I woke up the morning of Day 4 of the Offbeat Home cooking challenge feeling like "hell yeah! I can do this!" I made risotto my bitch yesterday, so I was feeling pretty confident. But BOY was the cooking universe ready to knock me back on my ass in the form of eggs that refuse to summersault, French toast sadness, and macaroni and cheese that was sorely lacking in one important ingredient. I had a length of freshly washed fabric folded up and hung over the railing in the dining room for well over a month. I'd picked it up at the fabric shop directly after reading a how-to for making my own no-sew curtains out of burlap. Now, I'm not much into burlap (shocking, I know), but I was certain I could replicate this style with something a little more my speed. So I purchased some fabric I liked and did a quick sketch to set myself in the right direction (a direction I like to call, "A Hair Short of Wing-It"). So far this week you've had yummy goat cheese and pear bagels, the quiche from hell, and some food experiences in between. Today, we'll revisit some of the ingredients and techniques you've learned and apply them in new ways. |
