Ahoy, buckos! If you haven’t heard, today be Talk Like a Pirate Day — worldwide. For your edification, here be three ways t’ add a little Captain t’ your day.

Learn the lingo

There’s an English-to-Pirate translator at the official ITLAPD website — helpful if you want to translate an email for your coworkers. If you just need a few vocab words, I can help you out:

  • Hello = “Ahoy!”
  • Friends = “buckos”
  • Wife, girlfriend, female friend = “beauty”
  • Coffee, beer, wine, water: It’s all grog today.
  • Home = “port”

If you can’t quite get the hang of the pirate accent, this instructional video should do the trick.
