I originally got this idea from a pin on Pinterest — and immediately knew my son would need his own jet pack. Gathering the supplies was super easy (we already had almost everything in our house), and the end result is a costume prop he’s THRILLED with.
What you need
- Cardboard
- Webbing
- 2 two-liter bottles
- Silver spray paint
- 2 pieces of red felt and 1 piece of orange felt
- Scissors
- Stapler and staples
How you do it
First I found a piece of cardboard that is the width of my son’s back and stapled old webbing in place so he could hold the cardboard up on his arms.
I then collected 2 two-liter bottles and misted them with silver spray paint.

I cut the flames out of the felt (2 red pieces and 1 orange) and hot glued them into the spouts of the bottles, and then hot glued the bottles onto the cardboard… and BOOM! Insta jet pack success!
After our initial test run we discovered that the arm straps fell down easily, so I used a little more webbing and a buckle and secured the straps across my son’s chest:

This is the best thing. Seriously.
Very cute. Flip it around and take off the flames and it’s nearly identical to a scuba pack my mom made me when I was a kid. Brings back good memories.
