Let’s talk about the magic that is hot chocolate on a mutha-fuckin’ STICK, people. Not since snakes on a plane has a thing on another thing had such a profound impact on me. Can you imagine hosting some friends over for dinner, and handing everyone a cup of steaming hot milk and a STICK OF HOT CHOCOLATE “for a creamy, interactive hot chocolate experience”!?

That’s how Kristi over at 30 Pounds Of Apples describes these things, which she then goes into detail about how to make.

Inspired by this creamy, interactive hot chocolate experience, I’m wondering…

Comments on Hot chocolate on a stick

  1. My fave is ahot rum toddy made with cider. Get some hot mulled cider (or just heat some cold cider in a pan and toss in a cinnamon stick and a clove or two), pour into a nice heavy mug along with at least one shot of rum (more depending on how cold it is!) and top with a pat of slightly-softened unsalted butter.

I love the butter/rum/cider flavor combo so much that I usually (and I know this is kinda gross and totally unhealthy) keep adding butter pats as they melt and I drink them down.

  2. My boyfriend’s mocha recipe:
    – Half ounce or more Goldschlager
    – One heaping table spoon Dark Chocolate Hot Cocoa mix
    – 1/4 cup Heavy Cream
    – Pinch of sugar
    – Double Shot of espresso

  3. I made hot chocolate on a stick last year, but hot chocolate made with a block of it alone didn’t wow me. If I used a big mug and one pack of Land O’ Lakes hot cocoa with a block of hot chocolate on a stick, that was a fantastic cup of wonderfulness.

My mom made a drink around the holidays about 10 years ago that I can’t stop thinking about. It involved melting red hots into apple juice. She doesn’t remember it at all and thus has no idea how much of any ingredients to use, nor whether there was anything other than red hots and juice involved. I keep meaning to experiment, but we hardly ever buy apple juice, and I never think of it at the store. But it’s a very pretty red drink, and it would make a lovely Valentine’s Day drink as well as a Christmastime drink. (I remember adding some cinnamon schnapps to it, too, I think, just for fun.)

But now that I’m thinking about it, let me go look. It has to be online.

Yes! 1/2 red hot candies melted into 2 qts apple juice or cider. Yay!

  4. I love how most of the reader comments have expanded on the cup of booze side of things. Its making me want to sip on something spiked right now…but it will have to wait until I’m off work tonight. =)

  5. My husband and I honeymooned in Europe and they had THE BEST hot chocolate (it was like drinking a melted chocolate bar). You’ve inspired me to try to recreate starting with the hot chocolate on a stick. Thanks!

  6. I’m terrified that this is going to be a big DUH moment for me and I’ll be totally embarrassed for asking, but…the Blueberry Tea…doesn’t have any blueberry in the recipe? Am I missing something?

    • I have a bottle waiting on my counter…I keep thinking that it’s time to drink it but I haven’t yet. I think it’s because I know it’s my last bottle of the year and I’m too lazy to make it from scratch.

  7. I’ve been carrying on the family tradition of making our version of wassail around the holidays (or, ya know, any time, since it’s pretty dang tasty). Apple cider, cooked with a clove-spiked orange and several cinnamon sticks.

    • We also have delicious wassail every year as part of our holidaze tradition. Ours has two quarts apple juice two quarts orange two cups pineapple and one cup lemon. Add whole cloves and cinnamon sticks and simmer till fragrant. Then add dark rum or whiskey to personal levels. Yum!

  8. One of my fave hot drinks is what I simply call my “hot lemony drink”. Basically, it’s iced tea served hot, which sounds silly but it works.

    Powdered nestea mix+lemon juice+honey+hot water=goodness.

  9. OMG my eyes got so big by the end of this that a coworker asked what was wrong. I WANT THEM ALL RIGHT NOW!

But….. how do you get the apple to hold the liquid? I don’t understand!

My roommate’s take on butterbeer: warm up some cream soda, add butterscotch schnapps to taste. So Harry Potterish (in our minds anyway) and so wonderful for winter. 🙂
