The happiest dog ever, a studio cat, and a gecko sits patiently for a photograph #Pets#Reader Round-up#animals#cats#dogs December 12 | Cat Rocketship Thanks to willswench for submitting her photo of Washburne. Last week, I asked you to share photos of offbeat pets, AND YOU DID! So many pets. This week, after we get done digitally-cuddling doggies, Offbeat Home'll be continuing winter holiday posts mixed in with the usual home tours (a barn-cum-house on the Mississippi!) and awesome DIY profiles (I installed a fireplace in MY APARTMENT!) So let's get the week going with a look at what's been going on with photos from the Offbeat Home Flickr pool and things we've pinned via the Offbeat Home Pinterest account. Beergurl72 takes out the trash. Evita shows off her studio cat. I love a good studio cat. This is Guajira, a crested gecko. He belongs to Lizard Whisperer, and is just one of her reptiles. Willswench has a petting zoo: three dogs, three cats, and Lord Picklesmith, the bunny who likes hats and thinks he's a dog. Dog Island's famous free range patio turkeys! Clicky Links! Wikihouse! Download, print, and build a pre-fabricated home, via Dornob. How to take a baby camping from The Art of Manliness. (Offbeat Mama also has a whole category of camping posts: backpacking with a baby, camping with kids…) Bea from A Zero Waste Home (which we profiled a while back) has written a note on heirloom guilt. Occupy Wall Street has evolved into Occupy a Home. Are you feeling the holiday spirit yet? No? Five ways to get in the spirit by being folksy as fuck will help. Got something to share? I wish I had submitted some of my mini-petting zoo to the pool, too! something to the tune of 3 cats, a dog, a ferret and 2 rats… 0 agree Reply so, following a suggested link from the wikihouse article, i found this piece of amazing: http://dornob.com/6-hours-2-adults-1-post-disaster-prefab-5-person-home/ prefab housing built without tools, essentially. edit: here's a link with more detail (too cool, i couldn't stop myself from researching) – http://www.archdaily.com/174909/liina-transitional-shelter-aalto-university-wood-program/ 0 agree Reply Hooray, Jackalopes ARE REAL! 1 agrees Reply Heirloom guilt is an interesting concept. I have a house full of heirlooms (which gives me minor panic attacks when I think of the "what would I grab in a fire" question), but none of them are sitting in storage to never be used! Okay, so my great grandmother's china is only used one week out of the year, but its still used every year. My son actually slept in my great grandparent's cradle, my mother turned my grandmother's table linens into fancy pillows for me and my cousins, I keep candy in the dish from my another great grandmother, and I nurse my son in the rocking chair of a third. I love that so many things in my house have a story, but I've never supported the idea of having things that are never used. Then their story is over as surely as if they were thrown away. 1 agrees Reply Bunny! Love the bunny and its costume. 0 agree Reply Awe…That's my Ozzy cat there in the trash can…He is 8 months old now and much much bigger. As a matter of fact he was neutered today and is not currently speaking to me. I should show him this picture to remind him of better days! Thanks so much for featuring him. He was rescued from the home of an animal hoarder and his parents were feral. 0 agree Reply That is my bunny/reindeer/jackalope. His name is lord pickelsmith, and he plays fetch. He also plays tag with that smiling mutt at the top of the page. It's like noah's ark at our house : ) 0 agree Reply Join the conversation Cancel Reply Your email address will not be published.
