Three New Year's Eve drinky links and a sparkly swizzle stick tutorial

Food Guestpost by Dale Mackey on December 28, 2011 3

Dale's been contributing decorating ideas and apothecary recipes to Offbeat Home all year. Lately I'm loving her drink recipes, like these!

Easy Winter Mimosas

  • equal parts champagne and grapefruit juice
  • rosemary sprig for garnish

Mix chilled champagne and grapefruit juice in a champagne or wine glass and garnish with rosemary sprig.

Apple Champagne

These are super easy and super pretty. I mixed an apple liqueur I got in Edinburgh, but you can substitute apple cider mixed with a little whiskey for a similar taste.

  • thin slice of apple
  • red decorating sugar
  • heart cookie cutter
  • 1 oz apple liqueur (or 1/2 oz each apple cider and whiskey)
  • 4 oz champagne
  • brandied cherries (optional)

Step one: Take apple slice and cut into a heart using cookie cutter. Roll the edges in a saucer of red decorating sugar and place on a paper towel.

Step two: Add liqueur and then chilled champagne to glass. Add cherries if desired. Cut an inch long (or so) vertical slice from the point of the apple heart and slide on to lip of glass.

Step three: Cheers!

Rosemary Pear Sparkler

This one takes some lead time! Read carefully!

  • 1/2 ripe pear cut into 1 inch chunks
  • juice of lemon slice
  • 2 oz rosemary vodka (2 cups of vodka infused for two weeks with 4 springs rosemary)
  • ginger ale to taste

Muddle pear and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and rosemary vodka and shake. Strain into glass and top with ginger ale to taste.

Top them all off with fancy garland drink stirrers

Supplies

Cut a small (3 inches or so) section of tinsel from the garland. Fold in half and apply hot glue to ends of garland. Adhere to bamboo skewer. Repeat.

I love the suggestions, especially the apple champagne. Maybe I will just try this out coming weekend.

Rosemary vodka? At the moment, I have some pear vodka that we made. I wonder if I instead of muddling pear into rosemary vodka if muddling rosemary into pear vodka would work?
