  1. That card catalog table is fantastic! With the switch to computer catalogs pretty much complete, I wonder how hard it is to get a hold of a section of one of those now?

    • I’s not necessarily hard, but it is getting pretty expensive. Not all libraries have gotten rid of them, and when they are, they’re often recognizing they can get a good value for them, as nostalgia for the pieces is only growing. In my city, you can find them for anywhere from like $150 to $700 on Craigslist, depending on the size/condition/how much the seller realizes the demand is huge. I paid $200 for a HUGE one at my university’s property auction — I got a lot of card catalog for my money, but the body was in bad shape (I have a post on my blog with before and after shots showing the whole process), and I had to find a place to store the huge thing. (Thanks, Mom and Dad!)

  2. I covered a piece of rectangular stiff paper in alfoil, used some string attached at each end and pulled across to make it into a C-shape and wrapped it around the antenna of my wifi thingy to boost the signal.

Or at least, my computer tech ex boyfriend did that for me. It’s still like that, yay!
